Cold Cases and Unsolved Crimes

IBRC Investigators are experienced at investigating unsolved crimes (cold cases). Most people believe that cold case investigations are strictly related to homicides, when in fact the term cold case originated in the City of San Diego where newspaper reporters nicknamed homicide cases that were put on the back burner due to lack of additional hot leads or clues to solve the case. The unsolved homicide was then labeled a Cold Case and that title has been stuck ever since.

A more appropriate term for these cases is unsolved crimes. In all actuality, a cold case, or unsolved crime, does not have to be homicide related. Other crimes, such as a sexual assault, kidnapping, arson, attempted murder, etc. can also be considered a cold case, or unsolved crime.

The main difference is that the crime of homicide has no statute of limitations, whereas other crimes of violence, or non violent, have various time periods before the statute of limitations expires and the prosecutor will not file charges.

With over a century of combined detective experience at I.B.R.C. we have seen it all, and experienced it all when it comes to criminal investigations.

The following are a list of some, but not all, of the crimes we investigate: sexual assault, murder, burglary, computer crimes, environmental crimes, robbery, fraud, arson, possession of pornography, rape, grand theft/embezzlement, assault, and elder abuse.
